Country Cottage, Surrey

We were involved in the complete renovation of a country cottage nestled in the heart of a beautiful woodland landscape, from its initial concept through to completion. The cottage hadn't been touched since the 1940's, which presented many challenges surrounding the general flow throughout the property and its poor lighting. The owners wanted to keep the original footprint in place (without knocking down walls) and were keen to retain existing features, avoiding any compromise on the integrity and history of the cottage. But it was essential to factor in significant lighting to open up all of the rooms and gain a feeling of space through design.

 

The combining of multi-level lighting with a complex layering of colour and pattern for the soft furnishings, resulted in rooms feeling spacious, airy and full of interest. The colour palette provided a feeling of great depth of colour with blends of cooler tones that we drew from beautifully designed wall coverings. Additional accents of brighter colours drew the eye around the room, opening up the feeling of space for the smaller rooms. This theme, married with a wealth of complimentary modern materials, from copper tiling and antique brass hardware, brought a focus to the smaller spaces that was both charming and eye-catching.
